Could someone please give me details re Family History groups or Historical Societies in the North Melbourne area.

I am looking to see if a John McKenzie senior or junior who lived somewhere in Courtney Street was paying rates circa 1890. I have a death of a John McKenzie senior in 1890,the cert is signed by his son John. No address number.Drat!
