Hello Heather,

Yes, the family had a shop in Footscray and the son George PUNSHON also
opened in Williamstown (a suburb of Melbourne further west than Footscray.

Indeed, he built his store over an existing small quarry, which his
architect turned into a cellar for perishable goods.

On the parapet he had moulded a bust of himself completed. Strange to say, a
Melbourne architect who brought a study group to Wiliamstown several years
ago was heard to say (I heard her, personally) that it was the bust of the
Prince of Wales. The building has a heritage status, and no doubt this lady
could see no other reason for its' dedication. She was devastated when I
privately alerted her to the reality!

None of her party, of course, had any idea of our conversation. It was up to
her to correct her statement if she felt enough self-confidence to do so. I
hope she did so for future groups... though, of course, it's hard to compare
the importance of a building headed by George PUNSHON withh a building
graced by the Prince of Wales!

Regards Ada
