Hi everyone

I have just joined this list and I am looking forward to getting to know
members.

My area of research is the surname PUNSHON [and similar spellings]
anywhere..
I have two particular lines of interest:-
The first is Sarah PUNSHON born in 1850 in Gateshead England
In 1867 Sarah had an illegitimate child in Gateshead [our grandfather
John William]
In 1871 she is with her parents in Gateshead
In 1881 she is working in London as a servant - the child was raised by
the grandparents in Gateshead.
After that she disappeared!!! She is not on any census, did not marry,
did not die [ I've searched pretty thoroughly]. My next thought is
emigration - but where to look???

Secondly I am investigating the familty of Robert PUNSHON who was the
brother of 3 x g grandmother Isabella PUNSHON [mother of John 1826
Gateshead, grandmother of Sarah b 1850, great grandmother of John
William b 1867]

Robert died in 1851 and in 1852 Mary [nee Davidson] and her children
emigrated to Australia.
My notes tell me that Mary (Davidson) PUNSHON, widow of Robert PUNSHON
of Gateshead, DUR, England , emigrated to Australia in 1852 with several
children and set up an XL Store in Footscray, Victoria, Australia.

Thinking that if Sarah did emigrate, it might have been to join her
father's Aunt Mary and family, I thought I would try to trace Mary and
family in Victoria - so that is the stage I am at now.

I'd love to hear from anyone with similar interests, or anyone who knows
anything of this PUNSHON family in Footscray, near Melbourne.

I am not familiar with Australian records, censuses etc, so pointers on
this would be helpful
