Hi Glynis,
How are you?
as you know, William Pery was stationed on Norfolk Island as the
superintendant of Agriculture, but they did not live on Quality Row.
The Superintendant Of Agriculture was housed at the Longridge Agricultural
Station,
there is a photo of the home that they lived in
The Photo is titled the home of the earl of Limerick, even though Perry was
not the Earl at the time..
Cheers
Liz

Thankyou Julie for the photos of the graves of Susanna PERY and her daughter
Susanna.
Her husband William Henry Tenison Pery was sent out from Ireland to the
colony as he was an embarrasment to the family. The classic remittance man
he was given a job on Norfolk Island by the governor as Superintendent of
Agriculture. Though the 2nd son of the second son he ironically later became
Earl of Limerick in 1844. Susanna's gg...grandson is the current Earl of
Limerick.
Our connection is not that grand. Susanna's brother William SHEAFFE is my
gg..grandfather-in-law. Susanna came to NSW with William (Lt in the 50th
Regt) and his wife on The Surrey which arrived in Sydney on the 17th August
1834. William Sheaffe was posted to NI from Aug 1837 to Sept 1838.
Susanna went with them to Norfolk Island, met and married William Pery in
1838, bore him a daughter still born 8 Mar 1839, William 17 Jan 1840, then
Susanna 7 Aug 1841. Susanna died 2 weeks after childbirth (infection?) and
baby Susanna died aged 5 months. I assume that they lived on Quality Row.
William Pery remarried 1842 on NI to Margaret Jane HORSLEY daughter of
Nicholas HORSLEY Lt 96 Regiment. They left NI about dec 1844 to the very
different life of Earl and Countess of Limerick with William aged 4 and
Henry born NI 1843. Edmond was born at Sea 6 jan 1845.
In 1851 census they are on another island - Jersey, Channel Islands in
Trinity Manor with 5 children, a Governess and 15 servants.
Regards
Glynis Turner
