I am seeking information please on a man named Fred Warmoll who was
connected with oyster growing and vending at Woy Woy, NSW. He apparently
came to the area from his hometown of Bourke and was the manager of the
oyster company owned by C.W. Fraser of Sydney. This business was conducted
in the early years of last century from a building formerly known as
"Waterside". This had a big shed and was just south of the old Brickwharf.
After his return from the First World War, Warmoll went into partnership
with Alderton at Woy Woy. By 1924 the partners had extended their business
to include the Fresh Fish Supply Co. at Gosford, supplying daily supplies of
fresh fish, oysters, prawns, lobsters etc.
Warmoll's correct name may have been John Frederick Warmoll. I have not
been able to trace him after 1931 when he and Alderton were listed in
Moore's Australian Almanac as being oyster vendors at Woy Woy, and F.
Warmoll was an oyster merchant also. Only Alderton was listed in my 1941
copy of the almanac.
Anything on Warmoll would be much appreciated.
