Hi Marg
Can I entice you a little further south to Pearl Beach? I'm trying to
find the first recorded use of this name.In 1925-6 C R Staples
developed the "Pearl Beach Estate -Woy Woy" and named all the streets
after precious and semiprecious stones.

However I think the name 'the Pearl beach" predates that
development. I cannot however find it on any maps. There is a
reference in Ben Smith's book "Pearl Beach- Early Days" (1993 pp14-15
) to Bella SHAKESPEARE of Patonga and later of Woy Woy, who claimed
her father referred to it as this in c1916.

I would like to ask whether anyone can direct me to a written source
prior to 1925. Any references in family papers/ diaries etc would be
really welcome.

many thanks

Kay Williams
