After last Tuesdays ( 20 Feb) transport melt down with
what seemed to be the whole population heading to the
Harbour thought you maybe interested in a news report I
stumbled on yesterday in the SMH of 1 Apr 1945
BIG CROWDS PACK NORTHERN
TRAINS
About 35,000 people packed trains from stations between
Wyong & Hawkesbury River yesterday
At Woy Woy Station trains were going straight thru towards
Sydney
Were some 2000 visitors from Sydney up on the Central
Coast for a sailing championship
Box carriages on some trains had between 14 - 20 extra
people standing
Motor traffic on the new Hawkesbury River Bridge was
constant all day and heavier over night . The Peat Ferry
handled heavier motor vehicles . Light traffic only
being allowed to use the bridge , which will be
officially opened on 5 May
That has a similar ring to the closing of the Harbour
tunnel Tuesday night !
Bye
