Mention of those old registers once held at Gosford Court House reminds me
that I inspected them at the Mitchell Library - in the very early 1970s I
think it was.
The interest was sparked by coming across articles in the Gosford Times of
30 August 1934 and 6 September 1934 (and one earlier) which had a
sub-heading "Quaint Letters Found in Gosford" (in the CPS Office)....the
tales told were fascinating.
In 1990 Gosford Local History Study Group of Niagara Park (now defunct)
published a book titled "Bench Books & Court Cases: 1826-74" in their
Historical Records of the Central Coast of NSW series. It is an index to
the wider records which are available on microfilm reels.
Much helpful and explanatory information was included in the book produced
by Philippe Tabuteau and Joan Fenton and other volunteers. The work is
invaluable, but as it was a limited and hand-collated production by the
Group, it is hard to locate a copy even second-hand.
Regards to all, Gwen
