Hi Michelle
. I am a true blue Australian who lives in California.
>
>My Henry Geary was born in (as stated on my great grandmother's
birth
>certificate) Berkhamstead, Hertford England.

As I mentioned before, the 1851 census lists him as b at
Northchurch, which is a small village a little way W of
Berkhamsted. . All this family were living at Frithesden in 1851
this is in Herfordshire ) . He was the 2nd eldest child :

Henry 41, b Chesham, Bucks ,farmer 90 acres, employing 5 men
Martha 41, b " " wife
William 17 all chn born Northcurch
Henry 15, "
Emma 13
Martha 11
Joseph 9
Noah 8
George 4
Alfred 1

He was 28 years old in 1865 so
>was born about 1833. That is the only information I have. I
know he married
>in Newcastle in 1857 to Maria (certificate says Henderson) but
could be
>Anderson

The BDM indexes says ANDERSON . Was 1857 ref # 2257
Newcastle

They had quite a few children . I noticed refs to a William GEARY
also in Morpeth raising a family at the same time . Maybe his
elder brother ?

Quite a few GEARYs in the BDM indexes.. The computer was in use at
the library so couldnt check the CD version

No Henry or William GEARY in the assisted migrants indexes to
1860? Perhaps he/they paid their own fares/ worked their passage
?

The are 3 - 4 Ann ANDERSONs in these assisted arrivals before
1857. You would need to have a copy of their marriage cert to get
her parents names so to find out which is she

Henry GEARY son of Henry & Martha died 1903 ref #14676 Morpeth

He left a will ref 29822.

You can get transcription copies of NSW BDMs certs The 2 agents
are
Joy MURRIN ...
Marilyn ROWAN has a very detailed web site :

http://www.marbract.com.au

Copies of NSW wills for this time period cost A$10 from

NSW Supreme Court
Probate Division
GPO Box 3
SYDNEY
NSW 2001
Australia

At this point in time they still dont accept Visa / Master Card
for will . So to get that you would need to get a bank draft in
AUS $'s ( Reusch International ,Washington DC is about the
cheapest place to get foreign currency checks )
Wills are a lucky dip . His might be of the " I here by leave
all my wordly goods to my wife' or it could be very detailed
full of names of grandchildren etc . Both cost the same

>If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Didnt have time this morning to look up more .

If you try for early English records... films of parish registers
etc . The LDS library catalogue spelling is Great
Berkhampstead St Peters and I am pretty sure Northchurch St Marys
come under it

The parish registers of St Marys Chesham are in the custody of
this church and havent been lodge with the Bucks CRO .
I have Chesham ancestors too

Thats about it for now

Bye
