Subject: GAYLEY (and MACDONALD) families in Australia
Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2001 22:01:53 +1200
I am looking for further information about any of the following (or all).
They may be separate families but I suspect, and hope, that they may be
related.
The first GALEY was a convict who was transported to New South Wales,
Australia - details below:
Name: GALEY, George
Age: 19
Occupation: Brass founder
Ship: Earl Grey 2
Year: 1838
Birth Place: Birmingham, England
The second GALEY was married to a George GALEY and she died in 1846
The third GALEY was Robert GALEY who married Agnes MACDONALD in 1884 in New
South Wales, Australia
The fourth GALEY (my wife's ancestor) could have been born in Australia
circa 1839 or 1844.
George Bishop GALEY arrived in New Zealand in 1850 - death certificate date
In 1863 he was in New Zealand
He applied for a miners right in Wollongong, NSW, Australia on the 1 January
1872
By 1875 he was back in New Zealand where he married Ellen STENT and raised
the usual large family in Takaka, Golden Bay, New Zealand and doesn't appear
to have left New Zealand again.
(I would also be interested in making contact with any descendants of George
Bishop and Ellen GALEY who may be now in Australia.)
I would be very grateful to receive any information about any of these
people mentioned above.
