*** Coroners.
Coroners inquire into deaths and fires. Their records are public records - so have a look at the State Records (formerly State Archives) site.

State Records produce a series called "Archives in brief" - consult the relevant one at:

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/publications/archivesinbrief/aib4%2Dinquests.htm

The relevant Concise Guide is at:
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/cguide/ab/ag&j0003.htm#E10E32

But see also Coroners' & Morgue at:

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/cguide/c2/cor&mor.htm#E9E8

It seems that the holdings are somewhat patchy and you may not find what you are looking for.

*** Prison Records
See the State Archives Concise uide about Gaol Records at:

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/cguide/c2/corser05.htm#E55E16

The holdings for Maitland Gaol are at:

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/cguide/c2/corser21.htm

*** Murders
If your person of inetrest was tried for murder then the proceedings would have been taken in the Supreme Court (Criminal Jurisdiction).

See:
