I just wanted to let everyone know that the BAMBACH reunion held on Sunday
at Maitland Park was a huge success! Everything went well - even the weather
which looked threatening on the Saturday. I know we need rain but NOT on
Reunion day!!!

271 people attended, a couple of families travelling from Qld and one huge
effort by one descendent to come from the NT. We had the son and daughter of
Joseph Bambach (the silent movie star 'John Maitland') who also brought
Anton Bambach's silver wine trophy cups from the1860's as well as the cellar
key to the Maitland Wine Vaults. People brought war medals and letters from
WW2 (Jerusalem) plus a host of other family treasures. One day certainly
wasn't enough for me to take it all in.

There were a number of highlights of the day, but I do want to mention the
talk given by Jenny Paterson on the German Bounty scheme and the PARLAND
voyage in respect to George Bambach and the Hartge family. Jenny certainly
did a wonderful job educating us all.

It was great day and I enjoyed being involved in the organisation. I'd like
to thank Dianne Brooks for her encouragement when I "picked her brains" late
last year and if anyone out there is thinking of planning a reunion, do it
as its well worth the effort and to be honest it wasn't difficult.

Julie
