Ken,
I believe the Caseys, Lonergans and Abbertons were all Catholics. They
arrived in Australia between 1856 and 1861 and all seemed to have settled in
the Maitland area before eventually moving up to Kayuga. The Caseys arrived
in Kayuga around 1866. Can't help you in the dispute between the School
Board and the teacher except to say that according to the Kayuga Centenary
Book the teacher at the time, Mr. Dawe was not liked at all and caused
considerable trouble amongst the locals.
