Today I was pleased to see a new publication on the history of Maitland.
I assume that it is new as I have not seen it before.....
"Time Gentlemen, Please"
by Cynthia Hunter and W Ranald Bowdell
published by the Maitland City Council, 2004
It tells of the history of the hotels of Maitland.
Forty eight pages and CD.
It would appear that the CD contains much more information than the book as
one file is a 181Mb .doc file which contains 290 pages!!
This file is a bit unwieldy to use as a single file. In my opinion should
have been broken up into more manageable segments.
No index.
My only other criticism is that the authors seem to have mixed up the Great
North Rd (which they describe as the New England Highway and have on the
map travelling west past Lochinvar) and the Old North Rd (which they have
going to Bishops Bridge)
A large number of photographs for this subject.
A good number of maps of the area.
Well annotated.
It appears to give a good coverage of the topic with sufficient detail.
Cost $25 at McDonald's Bookstore.
My congratulations to Cynthia Hunter and W Ranald Bowdell.
