Dear Listers

Today I discovered a particularly useful periodical online at the Fergusson project, part of the National Library of Australia website. It is the "Shipping Gazette and Sydney General Trade List" and there are copies online from 1844 to 1855. Gives details of which ships are in port for the week and arrivals and departures - probably similar to those in Sydney Herald etc, but all in the one place and logically set out. Unfortunately it does not list the steamers & schooners for Morpeth and Maitland, but has Newcastle and points north. If your ancestors were cabin passengers, they are likely to be listed - but not steerage etc.

Don't forget it is quicker 'Save target as..' than open these files online, plus you then can save them to file too. But be warned, most are around 1MB save them to a CD if you have the ability to do so.
