Hi Marg, Thanks for the input, but your looking at the wrong Richard Collier. My Richard was a convict ,came out on the Royal Admiral, and is a legend in my family for his sheer awfulness! The family settled in Surry Hills Sydney and Richard spent most of his time in Darlinghurst goal for abandoning his children, drunkeness etc. His wife Elizabeth Martin was born in 1836 in Tasmania, daughter of George Martin and Ann Burnside.George Martin died in Tasmania in 1846 and I can find no record of what happened to Ann. Ann was born at Windsor NSW in 1819, daughter of Ambrose Burnside and his wife Sarah. In 1834 Ann was tried and convicted of "highway robbery " and transported to Tasmania were she met and married George. Obiviously their daughter Elizabeth returned to the mainland, and I'm presuming that Ann and the rest of the family did as well. In my desperation to find ANYTHING on Ann , I asked the NSW BDM website to give me any Ann with a father named Ambrose (not that common a name) who died in the relevent time frame and out popped Ann Smith who died at Lismore in 1888. An Ann Martin married a George Smith in Sydney in 1846 and a George Smith also died at Lismore in 1886.I know it's a HUGE HUGE longshot, but I thought if it were possible that the NIMDEM on Elizabeth's sons' birth certificate was meant to be NIMBIN then that would place the family in that part of the world and I might POSSIBLY be on to something ( though your guess is as good as mine as to what they were all doing there in the first place! ). I hope this all makes some sort of sense. Thanks Anne.
