I can't answer the question about the white men but if everyone down
there is shivering in their boots while I am shedding clothing (sorry)
perhaps you could give me some help?! Actually I have moved north and
it is nice not to be too cold, but all my jumpers are going to end up
moth eaten up here because they won't be trotted out too often.

To my question. I have been plodding along with my family history but
not very knowledgeable. My gg grandfather James TRANBY was married in
Ipswich in Qld in 1857. On his marriage certificate, he stated his
parents were James TRANBY and Margaret QUIN and that he was born in
Penrith circa 1826.
I have been unable to find any record of his birth.

On both James' marriage certificate and his death certificate (1884) it
is stated that he was 29 years when he was married and had been living
in the Colony of NSW for 28 years.

Can someone suggest where I should start to look for any records of
James for those 28 years in NSW? The only hint I have of where he may
have been living is in an old letter I have from one of his
granddaughters, she stated that her grandfather came to Qld from the
Maitland area.

I have a feeling, but of course it is only conjecture, that James may
have been the son of James TRIMBY, son of the convict Joseph TRIMBY.
James TRIMBY died in 1828 and is buried in the old Glebe Cemetery. The
name changed from TRIMBY to TRANBY I should think to try to distance
themselves from their convict origins.

The TRIMBY men were in the Newcastle/Maitland area in the 1820's and a
Margaret QUIN was transport to Newcastle for her misdemeanours in the
early 1820's. Perhaps she is James' mother?

This is all very long winded, but I would welcome any suggestions.

Thankyou
