There is a William Henry Burgess born 1911 Tamworth (nearish to Gunnedah)
who serves in WW2 he enlists in Gunnedah You can see this in the Australian
National Archives. His next of kin was Jane. There is two other Burgess boys
enlisting in WW2 who were born in Tamworth. William Henry was the son of
William J and Jane Burgess.
If this is the right family I can get you the births until 1918.
Regards
Gillain

Subject: [AUS-NSW-PILLIGA] William Henry BURGESS b Napier NZ 1858, lived in
Aus from abt 1872. Marriage? Children? Gunnedah?

Greetings cousins

I'm hunting one / two brothers of my grandfather's father. They were
born in New Zealand, and moved "back" to Aus with their remarried
Irish mother Winifred and step-father Sydney Dyer about 1872. (I have
Win's death record at Redfern, 1890, and am not seeking more on her.
Rather, I want to share her fascinating earlier life with other
descendants.)

The boys then diverged (family legend says). Thomas Alfred went "Back
to Ireland" and William Henry stayed in Aus. He was around until
about 1920 or 1930, as his widow is remembered as corresponding with
his brother in NZ, but of course no letters survive, so we have no
old addresses.

There are too many people with these names, but after mine marries
there should be a cluster of Burgess births showing family names:
from his parents (Master Mariner) Richard Plummer Burgess and
Winifred Mary Minnie, for instance, plus the two missing lads, and
siblings Gertrude, Elizabeth, Mary Ann - the last two names are too
frequent to be much use.

And I'm hoping a death record may help, so I can work backwards.
There's a William Henry Burgess, son of same name and Jane, d 1960,
Gunnedah. which interests me. Gunnedah features in one family
anecdote, and that could be a clue. Does anyone know of the older one
in this record, who could possibly be mine? The NSW online record
doesn't show an age at death for the younger one . . . .

Any thoughts or ideas happily received, and many thanks
