I am a direct descendant of Thomas David BATTY (1802-1870) and Mary Ann
PIPER (1807-1888) who lived and died at Yass. They had 11 children: Emma,
Thomas (k/a Gipsy Tom), Dulcy, Henry, Sarah, Matilda, David, Edmund, Albert,
Austin, and Austin.

Thomas BATTY is the son of David Batty (3rd Fleeter) and Mary TURNER/WILKS
(1st Fleeter). Mary PIPER is the daughter of Francis PIPER (ship "Minorca")
and Sarah WOOD.

The most interesting story about Thomas' life was the manner of his death.
He drank himself to death, and his wife aided this by supplying him with up
to a gallon of wine a day while he lay sick in bed, and without adequate
food. However, an inquest ruled that he was depressed, his wife did not
realise he was dying and she was not malicious.

I've been to Yass but the council couldn't locate a burial record for them,
and the Yass cemetery is relatively large.

Is anyone interested in either of this BATTY or PIPER family family at Yass?
