Subject: Bernard Brown's Diary.

Good Evening all,
I've just returned home from an eight hour round trip to Nowra
where I was trying to locate more information on my 3xg
grandfather John McDermott who is mentioned in the index
of Bernard Brown's Diary. I located this reference to him
about 18 months ago at the FHS at Pyree and have been
trying to access the actual diary ever since. While at Pyree
I was told that the microfilm reader was out of order but the
volunteer had a copy of Brown's Diary on microfilm at home
and she would do a look up for me.
Today at Nowra Library I again found a reference to John
McDermott in the book The First 100 Years of Shoalhaven,
Deaths 1822 - 1922, compiled by Jack Tilton. This reference
to John McDermott states that there was an inquest into his death
(he drowned in the Shoalhaven River in 1859) and also mentions
Brown's diary. I was told that I would have to contact Jack Tilton
to learn more about this reference. I phoned Jack and he was
most helpful. He explained that Brown's diary up to 1859
had been included in various issues of the journal Time Traveller
and these were held at the Nowra Library. So back to the library I went,
searched every shelf and did manage to locate some of the journals but
there was only one with a mention of Brown's Diary.
This was for 1852.
I would really like to know what Bernard Brown had to say about
John McDermott, whether it be about his drowning or anything
else for that matter. If any list member has access to Brown's
Diary and would be prepared to locate the reference to John
McDermott I would be most grateful.
Best wishes,
Terri BRYAN
