I don't know whether we have corresponded before (I lost all my email
savings, addresses etc), but I have a Patrick Collins in my ancestors who
was transported to Sydney in 1837 and released in 1843. He lived at Camden
with his common-law wife and five children. He had another family in
Ireland when he as transported, and although I have yet to find out about
them, there is a John Collins shown as the eldest son on Patrick's death
certificate. I take this person to be a son from the first union, as no son
of that name was born in Australia. I also know from newspaper reports that
Patrick's father was also named John. I don't know if there could be a
relationship, given the popularity of the names, but you never know.
My lot appear to have come from Co Limerick (where Patrick was resident and
arrested), and also Co Clare, which is just a stroll across the fields away.
Regards,
Geoff
