MUSIC CLUB FORMED
There was a big attendance at the musicale and public meeting at the
Pioneer Hall on Wednesday night when a Wollongong Music Club was formed.
The meeting elected Mr. Alex Byron president.
The stage was banked with ferns, white peach blossom, pink and white
azaleas and beautiful iris lilies arranged by Mrs. H. Maldon and Mrs.
John Palmer of Mangerton.
On the platform were guests of honor: the secretary of the Federated
Music Clubs of Australia, Mr. Thomas; and vice-president of the A.B.C.
Celebrity Concerts Committee, Sydney, Mrs. Hope Gibson, both of whom
addressed the meeting. Dr. Harry Maldon was chair man at the meeting at
which about 250 attended.
The meeting elected Mr. Alex Byron president, vice-president Mr. Arthur
J. Chalmers, secretary Miss B. Foskett, and treasurer Mr. Graham
Jurjens.
A meeting will shortly be called to arrange a schedule for musicals
during the next twelve months.
Dinner Party
Prior to the meeting members of the former Illawarra Orchestral Society,
Dr and Mrs. Maldon and Mr. and Mrs. H. Hartley entertained Mrs. Hope
Gibson and Mr. Thomas to dinner at the Grand Hotel.
Miss B. Foskett was also a member of the party.
Delightful musical items were contributed at the Pioneer Hall by Kevin
Stumbles, Joan Whitehead from Sydney, Harold Brissenden (violin), Megan
Barclay (soprano) of Woonona and Anne Menzie with Mrs. Nada Brissenden
as accompanist.
