In case anyone else is researching the same family as I am, here is an
outline of one of my main interests in the SE of NSW.

Robert COOKE was born 1809 at Kiltinan Castle, Co. Tipperary in Ireland, and
came to Australia in 1836 with a letter of introduction from the Duke of
Wellington. He bought the property "Petfield" close to Tumut and operated a
cattle business there for many years. He married Mary Anne ROBINSON
(1821-1908) who had come to Australia from Co. Tyrone, Ireland, in 1839 with
her methodist preacher father. They had 5 children, John Robert COOKE
(1852-1931) who married Isabella HANNAH), James COOKE (1853-1940), Anna Mary
COOKE (1855-1938) who married Charles Neason STEPHENS (1841-1896), Hessie
Jane Gustava COOKE (1858-1902) who married Charles Henry SMITH (1849-1917),
and Edward Gustavus SMITH (1861-1907).

Other related families include the VYNER and DOWNING families of Tumut.

I have considerable information on this large family, including many old
photos, which I'm happy to share.
