The Shoalhaven Telegraph, Wednesday, July 4, 1906-
Licensing Court.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27
(Before the P.M. and Messrs John MONAGHAN and H. M'KENNA, L.M.'s)
EMPIRE HOTEL
Re Mark PERKINS' application for renewal of license. Mr. MARRIOTT for applicant, who deposed he had carried out the requirements of the notice given by the Licensing Inspector as to improved sanitary arrangements; he had submitted plan for making one bar to his landlady, who had approved of the scheme proposed (details of which were lodged); his landlady would not allow him to shift the counter, but would approve of a lift door.
The Bench suggested to Mr. TRENCH [solicitor for Mrs. FITZGERALD] that perhaps his client would agree to the plan submitted.
Mr. TRENCH said applicant could not expect much consideration from Mrs. FITZGERALD, seeing that he had endeavored to damage her property as he had done by his evidence in court.
Mr. MARRIOTT said applicant had not damaged the property when giving his evidence, but had simply stated facts.
The Bench asked Mr. TRENCH if he could promise that the plan would be approved of?
Mr. TRENCH said he could not promise anything on his client's behalf. She was a woman with a mind of her own.
Applicant stated to the Licensing Inspector that the lift door would not give free access to the two bars; the work of improved sanitary accommodation would be finished in a day or two.
Mr. TRENCH, after consultation with Mr. MARRIOTT, said he would give every assistance to have the bar plan submitted carried out.
To the Bench, Mr. MARRIOTT stated that the lease had five years and nine months to run.
The Bench assessed the rental at £232, the license fee being fixed at £30. The plan of bar was approved of, and renewal of license granted.
