Listers,
Need some help. In writing our family history we have included something that we are now not quiet sure of.
Somewhere we read about street lamps in Sydney town. It stated that there was extensive lighting around The Rocks area and the Quay, and there were street lamps on the corners of the main streets as the you moved south towards the Brickfields. In the story it is 1828 and we included a meeting place for the youngsters under the street light (it should have been lamp) on the corner of Park and Castlereagh Streets.
Our queries are, in 1828 would these lamps be in position? Next question, would they be some kind of candle, oil or gas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
