David.
I have been on a similar search my self and it is very frustrating.
My Lilly Fawkner arrived in Australia to meet her father , who had arrived
with new wife some years before.
I could find nothing at all on Lilly until I ask D.O.Cs
They told me she had given birth to Elsie Madaline Fawkner in the Benevolent
Soc hospital. 1892
They gave me permission to search their records at the Mitchell Lib.
There I found that Elsie had been put into a home in Bathurst at 9 months.
While searching I also found that the father was a Thomas Baxter from Sydney
[Tobaconest].
The records show that Lilly was fostered out a number of times to different
people but always put back in the home[I imagain that they used her for
cheap labour.] She left when she turned 18 in 1910
Have never found anything again on either woman her in Australia
If this sounds like any of your family listers, I would love to hear from
you
