My grandmother's parents (George and Lydia BROBBLE) managed or owned and therefore lived in several
hotels from the early 1900's to at least 1925 when my grandmother Lila and her husband (Policeman
David SUTHERLAND then lived at the Mulga Hotel for some time. I believe the hotels were the Oxford
and Mulga. Does anyone know anything about these hotels either then or now?
My grandmother and her sisters were very good friends of the Jockey Charlie Miller who was killed in
a race at Balranald about 1923. She was also related to the jockey Jim Pike who regularly rode Phar
Lap in Australia, although not in the famous Melbourne Cup win. Jim Pike was related (as yet
uncertain exactly how) to Lila's grandfather Richard Dance, who also lived in Broken Hill at that
time.
I would be interested to hear from anyone with any information or comments at all.
