Hi Lesley and all,
At the age of 25 years, Robert Webb was sentenced to Life at Chelmsford, England and transported to the Colony. Robert arrived in the Colony aboard the "Adrain" on the 20th August, 1820 having left Portsmouth on the 26th April, 1820. The master of the ship was William Sadler.
In 1841, Robert made application to marry Catherine KELLY in East Maitland - there was not record of them getting married. He was by then the holder of a Ticket of Leave which he received while in the Merton District.
24th October, 1844 saw Robert marrying Lydia SHAW (nee MATHHEWS) - the widow of John Shaw - in St Albans Church, Muswellbrook. Consent for the marriage was given by the Governor. The minister was William F.Gore, B.A. Thomas and Mary Dufton were witnesses to the marriage. Robert signed the marriage certificate with his mark "X" as he was unable to write.
In 1870-71 Electoral Rolls for the Hunter Valley there is mention of a Robert Webb being at Mount Pleasant, Denman.
So far I have not been able to track Robert, Lydia or Lydia's younger 3 children - Lydia, Anne or John since the marriage.
Anyone who may know anything about this family please contact me.
Many thanks,
Glynis
