Hi Lindy
Their permission to marry notation did not survive - not all did unfortunately.
James arrived on the Indian in 1810; From my CD
Smith, James *CP 1810 Indian Middlesex 1809 Life
... and you may wish to claim him on my web site as I notice you have claimed
Elizabeth but not James
You will note that James received a CP (Conditional Pardon) and he obtained
this on 31 January 1816. The CP detail also notes that he was a native of
Oxfordshire - this native place is not something that is included on that
Indent.
As James was tried at Middlesex you can probably obtain a copy of his trial at
the Mitchell Library in Sydney, but failing that you can wait until the 1809
information is available on The Proceedings of the Old Bailey London web site
at:
http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/
The 1828 NSW Census has the couple listed and James was a Publican at Parramatta
and he is living there with his wife Elizabeth and children - James 16, Mary 15,
Sophia 13, Sarah 11, Elizabeth 9, Jane 4 and William 18 months. Following all
the children through may give you more information about James and Elizabeth.
As you now have the ship you will be available to find more information on the
Colonial Secretary's Index as he has a few entries listed - at
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/default.htm

Hi Lesley and Listers,
I am a novice lister so please bear with me.
Elizabeth Holland was sentenced in Surrey in 1810 for seven years. She was
transported on the "Friend" and arrived in 1811. She married James Smith in
1812 and had a daughter Jane . I can find no other info on this couple except
that I know Jane married Thomas Reilly and that the couple settled in Richmond.
I have not been able to find permission to marry etc. nor death certificates
that I can rely on.
Can anyone help me with this please.
Lindy
