Ray,

Thanks Ray, yes I have tried the Old Bailey site (My Charles Hodges mother
in-law Sarah Bentley my gggrandmother gets a mention there) but still can
only find one Charles Hodges and you are right, he was convicted in 1826 not
1829 which I found on re checking the reel for the quarterly return for
April, May, June 1830. Part of the date is obliterated and I took it as 1829
and that leads to another question.
If he was convicted in 1826 and I was looking at the return for April- June
1830 where his age was stated as 14, does this mean he was 14 when convicted
in 1826 or 14 in 1830? Did they update the ages on the returns?

I agree that one of these earlier culprits may may have offended again and
then sent to Bermuda, and I am trying to find out where he was sentenced,
his crime and when he departed for Bermuda.

I will check out the Launceston or Hobart Libraries when next there for the
Palmer's Index or there's a possibility I will be in Sydney in the next
few months.

When you say registers, do your mean the AJCP reels? They are only available
by request in Tasmania for a fee and only cover a three month period so it's
difficult to work out which one to get when it's over a several years.

Your help is appreciated,
Paul Lowry.
