Subject: [CHARLEVILLE] miles to km? help dating newspaper abt Diamantina River flood
Date: Sun, 25 Aug 2002 19:29:29 +0800

Dear Friends,

The newspaper or magazine article is titled is "Sailing the Diamantina"
Questions:
1. What year did the change happen for miles to Km ?
2. Was there some kind of special rural Qld event in 1969 / 70?
3. What rural papers are likely to have circulated in the late 1960's early 70's
4. Any other suggestions welcome.

I have a photocopy of a photocopy of a newspaper or magazine article. The
header and any other i.d. has been cut off. The article is spread across 6
columns and is slightly wider than A4 paper. Mostly typeset with one photo.

At one point in the article it mentions " 140 miles (244 km) " so this would
have to put it sometime in the very late 1960's or probably early 1970's when
both units were in use.

The timing of events (1939), although some scribe penned in 1936, suggest
it was not a recent event but rather historical so it could be some kind of
magazine but it's more likely to be a newspaper.

It may have been in a city newspaper but my thought would be Qld "Country
Life" paper (published by Rural Press).

Personalities mentioned:
