Hi,

I need some Australian lessons:

in the letter my great-grandaunt wrote from Toowoomba to Berlin in 1896
she said
'the big boys (18 and 20) are deep in the bush'

Later on I got to know that

'the boys all went on large pastoral holdings near Charleville and
Cunnamulla' (don't know whether this generation or the next was meant).

I heard that in Australia you are accustomed to distances a European can't
even imagine, but in those days (1896) wasn't this a difficult distance to
overcome (from Toowoomba)? And what exactly means 'pastoral' in this case?

For any information I will gladly give any of you lessons in
'Schuhplattler', 'yodel' or how to correctly pour Bavarian weiss beer!

Best wishes

Tina
