Subject: Female Surnames???
Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 06:47:22 +1000
Dear Listeners,
On children's baptismal certificates of my ancestor Maria Rosina, her
surnames is entered as SEIDEMANN widowed, formerly MEINHARD.
* Can anyone tell me what formerly stood for, in German, during the
early 1800s?
I had thought formerly meant the same as nee (maiden name).
But information just to hand indicates SEIDEMANN was her maiden name!!!
Dose formerly mean her first married name was MEINHARD?
Or am I heading up the wrong tree???
Regards, Beryl
