Hello Sharon

Nearly right. Deaths, marriages and christenings (in that order). My
dictionary is in Queensland but it was a Cassells, about an inch and a half
thick. Sorry I can't give a better description but it served well. I also
had a little one when travelling in Germany etc.

The registers I looked at (scores of them, here and in Europe) were usually
reasonably easy to work out. Some early ones were in Latin and not set out
in columns. But the later ones had headings which were logical, were
written in German and they and the family names were usually not too
difficult to read. The rest of the writing was very hard to decipher
though.

I looked for family names in the columns for parents and sponsors
(christenings), marriage partners and witnesses (marriages) and all names in
respect of deaths. I recorded every detail of those entries where I found
familiar family names. I copied out the names I could read, tried to draw a
likeness of the words I couldn't read and made photocopies when this was
possible.

Good luck with it.

Best wishes, Ron

The parish register is on film at the LDS library but before I order it,
could SKS please tell me a few key words and or things I should look for?
Also, these words were on the cataloge entry - Tote, Heiraten, and Taufen.
I am guessing that these are Births, Deaths, and Marriages. It is quite
some time since I did German. Could someone also suggest a good
German/English dictionary that I could perhaps borrow from the library?
