On my grandfathers marriage certificate his birth place was given as" Wumbah" Germany, on the application for his grave his wife wrote"Elmone" Germany, Is it possible to find these towns in Germany just by this spelling, Or is my research doomed from the start ? My grandfather was born about 1883 in Germany . also was it common for germans to change z to s when they arrived in Australia. Hoping someone out there can help me. Many thanks
