Subject: What's the deal with our new email address???
Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2000 00:16:31 +1000
All,
I thought everyone knew we had a new domain (by osmosis or telepathy or
guesswork or something), but obviously not. A couple of people have asked
me "What's with the new email address?"
And, of course, those are the ones WITH our new email address. So, others
amongst you may be wondering "Where'd they go?" as email after email is
bounced back to you.
Here's the deal.
Why the new email address?
==========================
We registered a new domain. The old domain - thegreenfamily.com - still
exists but is not currently hosted by a webhost (ie. no pages located
anywhere in the world are LINKED to that domain). We hadn't updated our
info with our webhost so renewal notice was sent to an old non-existant
email address in Rockhampton with our old ISP, RockNet. We didn't renew
our webhosting.
We also hadn't kept our domain registration info up to date. In November
it will come up for renewal, but the renewal will go to 1. the same old
RockNet email address; and 2. the old post office box in Rockhampton. The
system is very strict and to update my details online it has to be able to
send me a message to confirm I am who I say I am. Problem: I need to
change my email, but it needs to send a confirmation to my OLD email to
confirm that I (at my old address) AGREE to the change. It can't be done.
There is a fax option, but the whole thing is very complicated.
Brief explanation: Our previous webhosting arrangement was not renewed.
Our previous webhost storage was limited. The domain has only one month
left before renewal. The renewal process is likely to be near impossible
or very difficult. The domain was too long anyway. As a business/company
name, The Green Family is already registered in Australia.
GreenAus was not a registered business/company name AND it was not a
registered .com domain. By virtue of the the former statement, it is not a
registered .com.au domain either.
So, we registered greenaus.com and will be finalising registration of
GreenAus as our legal business/trading name in the coming weeks. I already
had an ABN, so we will only need to update the Trading Names area and add
Kerri as a partner. I didn't have need to be GST registered previously,
but that looks like changing before Christmas.
So...
You may contact us at any email address @greenaus.com
Go ahead and try it now. Reply to this message, or create a new message
and send it to (for example)
Bye for now,
Charles
