As I understand it 'evangelisch' is the name of the Lutheran Church in
parts
of Europe. As I understand it after the reformation the protestant
churches
were registered as the Evangelisch Church giving them the Catholic and
the
Evangelisch or Protestant church.
The Evangelisch Church was also referred to in jest or sarcasm as the
Lutherans because they were following the lead set by Luther.
I understand that in time the Lutherans tended to divide according to
communities or states and some called themselves Lutheran and others
called
themselves Evangelisch.
The two congregations of Lutherans who came to South Australia were
known as
Old Lutherans because they subscribed to a life style and attitude to
theology and worship that had not changed in any form since Luther's
first
declarations.
I assume therefore that if you find it relating to a town that town is
Protestant. That is the town as one went with the reformers and it
maybe
that there is no Catholic church in the town. In the same way that the
Lutherans in South Australia built their own towns and places like
Hahndorf
had no other church except two or was it three Lutheran Churches it
had no
Catholic Church.
That is what my research tells me and I am open to be corrected.
