My apologies to the list for briefly appearing back in November and not since. I was on the move and my genealogical material was in storage. A number of people asked me subsequently about Gie(h)rke / Gehrke: one of my great grandparents was Martha Giehrke, born in Belgrad (Pomerania, not Serbia) who was the daughter of Johann G. later of Hatton Vale. Martha married Karl (Charles) Klaehn in 1895. Ialso have a newspaper cutting about her Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1945 which contains some limited information about her children and some interesting information on her life and times.
Someone may have an answer also to the following: one of Martha's children was my grandmother Annie Wilhelmina Klaehn, later Draeger. I notice that Annie (or Joanna, Johanna, Anna Wilhelmina) is a relatively common name and I wondered if it had enjoyed popularity because of a royal of that name? or some other reason?
Thank you and apologies again to those I did not respond to earlier .
