Further to my previous posting re. Balth. HAUPT:

I have been advised by a very knowledgeable and reliable historian that the
Sydney Morning Herald also carried a similar Letter of Thanks signed by
various immigrants who had arrived per this Oldenburg barque from Bremen.

Unfortunately, I dont have a date of publication for you, but sometime in
March is an obvious time frame to look at.

In addition, the letters apparently differ in that some names/individuals
which appear in the Sydney Morning Herald letter dont appear in the
German language one ie. on the Die MAUS website, and v. versa. (This may go
someway to explaining why you havent picked up on Balth. HAUPT in
Australian-sourced documentation. I believe the actual passenger list for
the Fanny Kirchner only names Cabin passengers and gives numbers of those
in steerage.)

As an aside, I recall reading somewhere that such a Letter of Thanks
resulted in the Captain of said vessel receiving a monetary bonus upon
completion of the voyage ..
