Hello all, hoping you can help.

I have discovered two ancestors had the occupation in 1860 and 1861 as Road
Contractors. One I know lived in Wright St Adelaide. I presume the other
lived closeby.

Do you think this means that they
a) Contracted their labour to another party who was building roads?
OR
b) That they may have tendered and won a contract to build a road?

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
