I am trying to find some information about Ellen SHINNICK(KELLY) who was
widowed in Adelaide in 1857 and left with four children under seven.
Her name appears on a St Francis church school (Melbourne) as a probationary
teacher in 1858. As she does not seem to have remarried she must have worked
for a living as there would not have been a lot of financial support from
her family.
She might have been a lay teacher within the Catholic system. On the other
hand, she might have gone into the Government system. There is, however,
documentary evidence to show that she returned to Adelaide at some stage
after training in Melbourne.
Are there any relevant records that I can access?
