Hi all,
I would like to thank Robyn for posting this information because it has shed
some light on why I, too, can't find a marriage record.

I have a marriage that apparently took place in 1856 between Susan LEANEY
and Edmund James WALLIS but there does not seem to be any official record. I
would be interested in reading any responses to Robyn's listing.

I have just purchased Beryl E. Schahinger's book entitled"South Australian
Registration Districts of Births, Deaths and Marriages" and have read under
the heading "Marriages not registered": "Some ministers kept no registers
at all while some kept books, but not in the required form and some lost
even the rough memo of these events made at the time so that cases are
numerous in which marriages have taken place of which the official record is
irretrievably lost." I'm wondering if my Rosanna VINECOMBE falls into that
category along with any others.

Any help would be appreciated.
