This note regarding the next few meetings of the FPFHG may be of
interest to some listers
Regards,
Ros

Hello everyone,

We seem to have a fairly full agenda for the next couple of months and
so Tim thought it would be a good idea to send you all an e-mail so that
you can make a note of certain dates. Please take the time to read
this notice. May I suggest that you print a copy for yourself so you
can refer back to it later.

We have some interesting speakers lined up for our normal Saturday
meetings for both September and October.
In September we have Aileen Tregus talking about an aboriginal lady
called Daisy Bates, and in October we have Brian Reader coming to talk
about fashions through the 17 and 1800s and he will include a segment on
military uniforms and how to date old photographs.

Our AGM will held in November as usual when we'll have a slightly
different format to our usual meetings. The Committee has suggested
that we have a lunch meeting this year. It will be at the hall as usual
and there will be no fee involved. The Group will provide cold meats
etc and we ask that everyone brings either a salad or a dessert to be
pooled. We will be sending out further deatils on this nearer. At
that meeting Graham Jaunay has volunteered to sit on a Question Panel
and will answer any queries or problems you may have regarding your
research etc. As last year, he would be able to give a more complete
answer if he is able to do some research, if necessary, on your
particular question, so if you can let us have them in advance we will
send them to him before the AGM.

We will be having a display at the Family History Fair on Sunday October
11th which is being orgainsed jointly by SAGHS and National Archives.
Some of you may remember the one we had in Collonades a couple of years
ago. We have a similar thing in mind for the Fair to promote our Group
- i.e. samples of BDM certificates, old wills, inventories, pedigree
charts, old photographs - general "tools of the trade" for Family
Historians and we are looking to borrow anything of interest which you
may be prepared to lend us for the day. It will be on a manned display
at all times, and will therefore be safe. We are also hoping to have
a sample of our web-site on disc to show on a computer.
There is a very full program for the day with a total of no less than 15
talks by some very interesting people which Marie Maddocks has
organised. It is being held at Pulteney Grammar School on South
Terrace in Adelaide from 10.30 a m until 4 pm. Entry is only $3 or $2
consession Absolute value for money.
We would like to hear from anyone who intends to go to the Fair and
would be willing to sit on our display stand for an hour at some time
during the day. Anyone who is willing to volunteer, or anyone who has
items which we may be able to incorporate in our display, is asked to
contact either Tim or myself. We would be grateful for any input.

Most important of course and also value for money, is our Seminar. You
probably already know that it will be held on Saturday October 25th
from 10 am to approx 4 pm. at the Hall in William Road, Christies Beach.
Guest speakers have now been confirmed and we will start the day with
Christopher (Chris) Pearman who is talking about DNA technology and it's
impact on Family History. After morning tea we will hear from Alsn
Philips of Gould Genealogy and he will tell us about some of the latest
publications he can offer and also about a nes venture he is involved
with - Archive CD Books Australia, an opportunity to obtain old and rare
books n CD Rom.
During the lunch break we will be able to have a closer llook at Alan's
range, which will be available all day.
We'll then have a talk by Susan Mildred on "Tracing your female lines"
and after another short tea break we'll hear from Nick Vine Hall. You
may remember that Nick was coming last year but ended up in hospital.
He will be talking about British Migration. Bookings are essential
(for catering) and you can book at September meeting or by contacting
Tim, Barry, or myself. Cost to members is just $22 - $25 to
non-members - including lunch , morning and afternoon tea.

That's about all I think for this time. I will send out another notice
regarding the AGM nearer to the time.

Hope to see lots of you at the coming events.

Maggie Woodroffe,
Secretary
Fleurieu Peninsula Family History Group Inc.
