If you use Google and put in Albert Namatjira's name there is an
entry (among many) that has photos of the Hermansburg Mission........

Just adding to this.... I visited Hermanssberg in August and a very interesting place it is too. Albert Namatjira was born there and subsequent generations of Aboriginal artists have also come from that region. The Mission is now a historical place, might be National Trust I think, and there are a lot of historical photos and information on site. I should think if you wrote directly to Hermanssberg (It's actually in the Northern Territory, about 80 or so kms from Alice Springs) they would be able to help you with info on the various missionaries. The Lutheran Archives in Adelaide would also be able to help as I've been told they are the Australian head office so to speak for the Lutheran Church. According to the latest SAGHS mag the address is: Lutheran Archives 27 Fourth St, Bowden (08) 8340 4009 email and
I also saw some info on the Mission, more particularly the wives of the missionaries, in Alice Springs at the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame. They have a website: http://www.pioneerwomen.com.au/

Hi Gay & listers,
The Hermannsburg Mission was a Lutheran Church mission - their archives in
Adelaide will have details. Watched a fabulous documentary on it recently
on TV. Apparently it operated for awhile, then closed, but a few years
later was re-opened again. Sorry, can't remember details.
Good luck with getting info.
Chris.

who is having problems finding some of his information, so sending on part

find any in Australia, or may have heard of the "Hermannsburg Mission"
also.
