Hi
I am concerned there seems to be some incorrect & incomplete passenger lists on various web sites. I have found that it is not wise to rely on those copied from newspapers as many names(particularly those of Irish, Scottish, Italian and Germanic origin) are frequently misspelt & there is little extra information. Initials or comments such as "wife & 5 children" are the usual.
However I have seen some continental European passenger lists which have been researched from government & other original records. On most lists there is extra information such as the previous names of the wives, the full names of the passengers and where to locate the place that they left from.
Occupations are usually translated. The full information is not shown for every passenger but research is continuing & lists are revised.
The lists are copyright to the two S Australian compilers & can not be copied, but can be researched at the SAGHS library.
They have NOT ligitmately been copied or distributed any where elsa inculding to the internet or other libraries.
Any copying & putting them onto any website of printing them in family histories is a legal breach of copyright & the offender can be charged.
Edna
