Hi List

I am wondering if anyone can come up with suggestions for my dilemma. Sorry this is rather long winded.

I have just realised my 2ggrandfather Francis GOLDSWORTHY emigrated to Sth Australia. I have been searching in Conrwall and Devon for his death without success, my ggrandmother Jane Billing GOLDSWORTHY arrived with her husband Henry DYER in 1865 aboard the "Lady Milton". I have since found out that her sister Priscilla (married Joseph Michell in 1868), brothers Ben and William (also have their marriages) came out on the same ship. I was told her mother Catherine also came out but that wasn't on the index and I couldn't find it anywhere. However she died in Kadina in 1904. I had presumed that Francis had died between Jane's marriage and the family departing for Sth Aust. When I couldn't find it in that time frame or between the 1861 census ( he was alive) and when Jane was married, I suddenly thought maybe he also came out to Sth Aust. I found that he also died in Kadina but in 1871.

I went into the Vic State Library yesterday and checked the index and couldn't find him and the only Catherine's were the wrong years entirely. I was checking the assisted passengers and now wonder if perhaps they had to pay their own way. He was a miner but if he emigrated in 1865 he would have been 50. Would he have been eligible for an assisted passage at that age? I did think maybe they may have come out later but as he would've been older I doubt it. No doubt some learned lister will know the answer to this onTIA
