Peter,

SKS means some kind soul.

From Mannings book on SA place names, Finniss Vale, a school near Rapid Bay
opened in 1860 by Anne Whyte and closed circa 1875.
Also, 'The Finniss Vale Hotel was built in 1852, the same year in which the
district was consituted. (Mining of copper, silver, lead and zinc began in
1844 and continued at intervals to 1909 at least).

Booleroo - The Govt town of Booleroo was surveyed by EF Belt in 1878 and
proclaimed on 25 July 1878, In 1916 the Nomenclature Committee suggested
that it be renamed 'Noocoona', the name of the local Aboriginal tribe, to
avoid confusion with the town of Booleroo Centre which had its genesis when
TE Rowett obtained the land grant of section 70S, Hundred of Booleroo in
July 1881 and . . . (subsequently sold etc).
The Govt Gazette of 6 Dec 1881 carries the notice: 'A post office has been
opened at Booleroo Central (sic) on the mail line from Melrose to Old
Booleroo Station.' The Hundred of Booleroo, County of Frome, proclaimed on
17 June 1875.

To further confuse us, it lists MOUNT VIEW, a local variant name for the
Govt town of Booleroo which is non-existent on ground. It takes its name
from the former Mount View Primary School adjacent to the surveyed town.

So I think that all the Booleroo's are in a similar place, they certainly
aren't scattered in different places around the State.

Mannings book is one, there is another one which I am sure a lister will
tell you and there is also a website
http://www.placenames.sa.gov.au/pno/index.phtml which is also helpful.

Kind regards
Mari in Adelaide
