The Smith family I am after, story has it from an elderly relation I met some years back, in Penrith. Cumberland. UK.. she was after Smith, I said you have to be joking...but to please the old girl in her 80s, how could I refuse another challenge!
All she had to go on was that the father and son came to Australia, but, left the daughters./sisters in England. Mother died... girls were put in some Clergy home in Essex? Son/brother worked and sent money back to UK to help his sisters, what happened to him... his father so I was told died on a ship in Sydney harbour...
Son/Brother taken into care with a childless couple, but he inherited what they had, farm?
all I have is a Henry and a Thomas... Henry I think was the son/brother.. we would be talking about 1840s plus...
So if anyone knows or has heard of a Smith inheriting land....he may be my laddy!!!
The name Smith must come through Winnie's side of the family, where heaven knows as I know her for the Ridley family of Tow House, Northumberland.
