Dear Barry & Jenny,

My family descends from Thomas Stokes b Bath UK c1811 occ butcher, s/o
Thomas Stokes & Naomi Young. In 1853 cert of his second marriage says he
was widowed in 1850, had 3 children dead and 1 son, Joseph living. Had
lived in Victoria since 1846. Second marriage at Manse of Scots Church
Melbourne to Flora Cameron. No children. Thomas (1872) & Flora (1870)
buried General Cemetery Melbourne.

Joseph married Mary Elizabeth Detlaff at Okarito Westland, New Zealand
1873. They had 20 children. Our HUGE family has been in this area ever
since.

Cannot find Joseph's birth in Victoria or Tasmania nor his mother's
death or her names in Victoria.

Suggest you also liaise with other STOKES researchers. They are all
searching different families, but when you find info that is a 'dud' for
you, it will be gold to one of us.
