I have identified my family tree to a George Lowe and a Norah Hern who
married in Hobart in 1814. George Lowe was at that time 'free', having
arrived at Sydney in 1803, for 14 years, on the Glaton. How and why he
got to Hobart, I don't know. In the 1822 census he appears as the
owner of land, with three children.Norah Hern, arrived in Australia on
the Catherine in 1814, from Ireland. Ships records show her as Honara
Ahern, she died in 1839, registered as Enora Lowe. I am interested in
any information regarding these two. A son, James, married in 1836 to
a Belinda Kennedy. I don't know where Belinda came from. There is no
other mention of her on the BDM's or Pioneer Index. She was apparently
underage to marry, as it shows permission given to marry. It appears
James was the publican of the Mogul Inn, in Collins St, was killed in
1865, when kicked by a horse.
I am interested in any knowledge of these families.
John Hakes.
